The Healey School Curriculum

A curriculum that matters

The structure of Healey’s curriculum.

Healey Primary School’s curriculum is a clear, sequential and structured programme of learning, which has been carefully planned in order to meet the needs of all pupils.

We aim for all our pupils to enjoy their education and make very good progress in all areas of learning. Our curriculum is ambitious for all. Through high quality teaching and learning we give all pupils the opportunity to reach their full potential, both academically and pastorally.

Those who are most able are challenged and supported through appropriate extension activities which deepen their understanding through a mastery approach. Our SEND pupils are supported accordingly within an inclusive environment therefore allowing all pupils to develop the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.

Our curriculum is further supported by assemblies and wider opportunities within and outside of school. British values are promoted, along with an understanding and appreciation of the wide range of cultural influences that have shaped the pupils’ heritage and that of the local area.

Why our curriculum matters.

Healey School is unique. It serves a community where there is a significant proportion of deprivation. We want our curriculum to improve social mobility, provide knowledge and skills that pupils need in order to take advantage of opportunities, responsibilities and experiences later in life.

We provide activities that pupils may not otherwise experience in order to spark curiosity and develop a thirst to learn new things, whilst making links with prior learning.  We enhance our curriculum through visits, visitors, and enrichment activities. These in turn provide our pupils with diverse opportunities to learn a range of transferable skills.

We recognise that our pupils need both a sense of valuing themselves, and developing aspirations for their future. We want our curriculum to raise pupils’ ambitions and dreams, engender a sense of personal and collective pride in their achievements, as well as instilling in them an understanding of the purpose and relevance of learning.

This feeling of worth and strong self-esteem is key to our pupils and the school community.
